Trainers

RaceShare’s team of trainers are consistently in the top-ten UK trainers tables for prize money and winners. Their skills in nurturing and training racehorses, and running training yards that promote the best for their horses and staff, cannot be bettered anywhere in the world.

William Haggas

Somerville Lodge
Newmarket, Suffolk

One of the most successful and respected trainers of his generation, and a winner of six Classics, William Haggas is consistently in the top three in the trainers championship for winners and prize money in the UK.

William’s most successful season to date was in 2021, amassing £6.5m in prize money and 180 winners. From his Somerville Lodge yard in Newmarket he trains for some of the most high-profile owners in the sport, including the Queen, Cheveley Park and Shadwell, for whom he currently trains the world's highest rated racehorse, Baeed. Renowned for his patience and skill in not rushing his horses onto the racecourse, he is a master of his trade.

Andrew Balding

Kingsclere
Newbury, Berkshire

Based at the historic Kingsclere stables in Hampshire, Classic-winning trainer Andrew finished second in the trainers championship in 2021, with £4.2m in prize money, and the wonderful mare Alcohol Free leading the challenge with two Group 1 wins.

A skilled and ambitious trainer, Andrew excels with international campaigns for his horses and amassed another £1.1m in prize money from his foreign exploits. Andrew is also on the Royal training roster, as well as being a key trainer for King Power Racing and Sheikh Fahad’s racing operation, QIPCO.

Ralph Beckett

Kimpton Down
Andover, Hampshire

Few people in racing are more committed to the success and long-term future of the sport than Ralph, who has trained over 1,000 winners and seen Classic success with three outstanding fillies Look Here and Talent, who both won the Oaks, and Simple Verse, who in 2015 become the first filly to win the St Leger for 22 years.

Ralph trains from Kimpton Down Stables in Hampshire where his current string includes the hugely exciting colt Westover, a fast finishing third in the Derby for leading owners Juddmonte. Often viewed as a top-class trainer of fillies, Westover illustrates Ralph’s skill with the very best colts when given the opportunity.

Charlie and Mark Johnston

Kingsley Park
Leyburn, North Yorkshire

Charlie joined his father Mark on the training licence at Kingsley Park in Middleham in January 2022, and what an historic CV he has joined.

In 2018 Mark became the winning-most trainer in British racing history when he saddled his 4,194th winner and on ten occasions he has saddled more than 200 winners in a season. Outstanding feats of training. Both Mark and Charlie are qualified vets which ideally positions them for understanding the physical demands of their horses in training and how best to help horses excel on the racecourse. The brilliant stayer Subjectivist was the most recent Group 1 winner from Kingsley Park, winning the 2021 running of the Ascot Gold Cup. There will be many more Group 1 winners to come.

Venetia Williams

Aramstone
Kings Caple, Herefordshire

As the winning-most female racehorse trainer in history, and only the second to win the Grand National (with Mon Mome in 2009) Venetia is renowned for her consistent performance at the highest level.

Venetia’s horses are regular features on all the big-race Saturdays and festivals during the Jumps season, and have gained numerous successes at the Cheltenham Festival. Venetia’s beautiful Aramstone Stables in Herefordshire have an unrivalled 50 turn-out paddocks, as Venetia is a great believer that all her horses should spend time each day out in the field at grass. The 2022/2023 Jumps season promises to be an exciting one for Venetia with the novice Grade 1 Cheltenham Festival winner L’Homme Presse a genuine Cheltenham Gold Cup contender for 2023.
